Speech Pathology
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) assess, diagnose, and treat speech and articulation disorders, receptive, expressive, use, form, and function of language, voice disorders, feeding and swallowing disorders, fluency and other neurologically based impairments that impact speech.
Speech and language disorders and deficits can be the result of congenital, developmental, or acquired etiologies. Hearing loss, oral anomalies, oral motor deficits, voice disorders, cognitive impairments, processing issues, brain trauma, seizures, or stroke are the most common included in these groups.
Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on enabling people to participate in activities of daily life. The word "occupation" - means an activity which "occupies" our time. For example, a child in grade school has the occupation of learning. To determine whether your child would benefit from occupational therapy he/she will be assessed to determine his/her current level of cognitive, social and motor development. Specifically, the assessment will include testing reflex integration, sensory processing, pre-writing/writing, play skills and puzzle assembly, visual-perceptual skills, dressing, feeding, balance, hand strength and skills. If it is determined that skill development is impaired or delayed, an individual treatment plan with developmentally appropriate activities will be written. Ongoing therapeutic assessment will then be necessary to ensure successful treatment and subsequent discharge from the therapy process. Occupational TherapyAn Orofacial myology disorder is when during rest posture of the tongue, there is an incorrect positioning. This can then cause improper orofacial development and lead to malalignment of the teeth. A tongue thrust is the most common orofacial symptom. Many patients exhibit an open mouth, lips apart resting posture. Without treatment, any orthodontic treatment will not be stabilized and relapse of treatment may occur. The causes of an orofacial myology disorder may be caused from prolonged pacifier use or thumb/finger sucking, restricted nasal airway due to enlarged tonsils or adenoids, and structural abnormalities such as a short lingual frenum (tongue tie). Orofacial myology patients often have been receiving speech therapy for articulation with no improvement. The effects of myofunctional disorders need to be evaluated individually and treated my an orofacial myologist. Orofacial Myology
LiPS® Program (Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing)
This program involves the teaching of an oral-motor, visual, and auditory feedback system to enable children of all ages to develop important phonemic awareness skills that form the basis of reading and spelling. Children will learn to recognize how their mouths produce the sounds of language to increase speech production, in conjunction with kinesthetic feedback to improve their ability to read and spell.
LiPS® may be right for your child if he/she demonstrates difficulty in any of the following areas:
• Letter-sound associations
• Recognizing same/different sounds within words
• Blending sounds to read words
• Spelling
• Identifying syllables
• Decoding unfamiliar words

Teycha Torres
Occupational Therapy
Hi! My name is Teycha and I am a Florida state registered and licensed pediatric occupational therapist. I have been providing therapy services to children and families for close to twenty years. I grew up in Long Island, New York where I graduated from SUNY Stony Brook University with a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. I relocated to SUNNY South Florida to chase the sun but instead found myself chasing my dreams of helping children and families in need. Little did I know my passion for play would take me this far. Every day is a blessing that I get to put a smile on the kiddos I work with and provide families with a sense of relief that things will be okay. I look forward to meeting your children and working with your family on what we call “skills for the job of living” in this case PLAY!!!!!
